What is custom firmware, and what it's used forīefore I begin I'd like to provide some background information. Update: I have written another post going into more detail on custom firmware installation using a Teensy on a CECH-2001A PS3 slim. This post describes my experiences during PS3 custom firmware installation on my fat CECHA01 console, and my brother's slim CECH-2101A console. I hope you would love this PS3 hack, as it would let you extract more from your amazing gaming console.Installing custom firmware onto my PS3 was one of my goals I mentioned in my project introduction post. This was one more method to install custom firmware on PS3.
Now, simply follow the instructions, plug in the external storage device which has the PS3UPDAT.PUP file, and select System Update.
STEP 4: These beep sounds indicate that you have booted your PS3 in recovery mood. When you do so, you will hear a beep followed by consecutive beeps. STEP 3: Once its off, press and hold the power button again. This will actually startup and shutdown your console again. STEP 2: Now, boot your console by pressing the holding the power button. You have to repeat the above method till step 6, where you have the update on your disk.
You can even get the CFW on your PS3 by installing it on recover mode. You cannot create the custom firmware of PS3 of lower version to that installed on your console. NOTE: If you follow these methods, then you need to take care of one thing. STEP 7: Now connect this external storage device and update your PS3 firmware by doing, Settings > System Update. And also make sure that you remember the whole directory hierarchy, which was /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP STEP 6: Now copy this created CFW.PUP file to an external storage device.
